TNA Wrestling

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling is a professional wrestling campaign that was established by Jeff Jarrett and his dad, Jerry Jarrett, in May 2002. When it was formed, TNA was part of the National Wrestling Alliance and was called NWA Total Nonstop Action. TNA was given exclusive rights to the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and the NWA World Tag Team Championship. TNA parted with NWA in 2004, but was allowed to continue using the championships until May 2007 when the NWA cancelled the agreement. TNA is the first American campaign to use a hexagonal wrestling ring instead of the more traditional four-sided ring. The idea for TNA Wrestling began on a fishing trip between Bob Ryder, Jeff Jarrett and Jerry Jarrett; they were trying to figure out their futures in wrestling. World Wrestling Entertainment was the only wrestling creation on TV and Ryder thought that made many stations think it was bad for business. >> More alt

About TNA Wrestling

Ryder then proposed a company that wouldn’t need TV and would just go right to pay-per-view. Jeff was the only one of the 3 men to take the conversation seriously and started to get a business plan ready in his head. He wanted to get former World Championship Wrestling people first, like Jeremy Borash, into the game. The company’s first show was on June 19, 2002. TNA didn’t tour like other companies, which meant costs were kept low. TNA’s weekly show was offered over pay-per-view as their main revenue source instead of the monthly shows that other companies used; TNA Xplosion was their syndicated show that started in late 2002. After 27 months, the company felt its fan base would support 3-hour PPVs, so their weekly shows ended on September 8, 2004; the 1st 3-hour monthly PPV called Victory Road was held on November 7, 2004. TNA Impact! started on June 4, 2004 on Fox Sports Net; it quickly replaced the weekly PPVs as the company’s main broadcast. Because the show got continuously low ratings, it wasn’t renewed for the next year. On July 1, 2005, TNA broadcast Impact! on their official website and continued looking for a new TV station. They got a deal with Spike TV and its first episode was broadcast on October 1. Impact! got higher ratings since it moved to Spike TV and currently has a primetime slot on Thursdays.
