About Uptown Theater
Even though Uptown Theater is a less established venue, it has big bands like Black Stone Cherry periodically. The concert hall will regularly have smaller groups from the county play just about every day of the week. While most of the time Uptown Theater has scheduled shows set up , the place does have a couple of open mic nights. The open mic for musicians is on Friday and the one for standup comedians is on Thursday.
Originally a warehouse, Uptown Theater was remodeled into a club by Hugh Geanopulos in 1982. The owner used the club he enjoyed when he used to dwell in Jacksonville as the inspiration for the design of the club he operates now. Uptown Theater eventually became the friendliest bar in the city to listen to shows or stop off for a beer.
