The University of Phoenix Stadium has been crafted to have the first fully retractable natural grass-playing surface in the United States. The stadium originally opened in the year 2006, on August 1 and was named the Cardinals Stadium. The naming rights were however bought by The University of Phoenix shortly afterwards in the month of September the same year. The stadium is thus, now known as the University of Phoenix Stadium.
The stadium has a seating capacity for 63,400 spectators, which can be extended to 73,719 seats. The beauty of the entire structure has earned itself the fame of being the architectural icon of its region as has been given by Business Week.
The very first pre-season football game that was held in this stadium was played on August 12, 2006 and the result was that the Cardinals defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers. The stadium became the venue to host a soccer match in Arizona that received the highest number of spectators achieving an attendance of 62,462 spectators. The United States men's national soccer team defeated Mexico.
Due to the state-of-the-art design of the architecture of the stadium, it is capable of hosting multi-purpose events. This has enabled the venue to host almost 91 events in such a short span of time since its inception. These events included the Arizona Cardinals games, various shows, expositions, trade shows and motor sport events, state championship games for football and even a high octane Rolling Stones concert on November 8, 2006. The University of Phoenix Stadium hosted the Super Bowl XLII on February 3, 2008. Go and grab your tickets for a show at the University of Phoenix Stadium now.
