The 'Marcus Center' was inaugurated in the year 1969 and its main aim was to promote and spread the magic of performing arts in the entire Wisconsin region. The center was a creation of the famous Chicago architect Harry Weese, who had designed the entire structure in the 'Brutalist' style. The ‘Marcus Corporation’ largely did the funding for the project.
The 'Uihlein Hall' has showcased some of the best orchestral concerts and theatricals of the last four decades. It is designed to host all kinds of events, such as operas, musicals, orchestral concerts, dance programs, theatrical productions, lectures, annual meetings, commencements and film screenings. The hall has a massive seating capacity of over two thousand guests. The hall has been named in honor of the 'Uihlein family', the owners of the former Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company.
The 'Uihlein Hall' is the prestigious home to the 'Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra', the 'Milwaukee Ballet Company', the 'Florentine Opera Company', the 'Marcus Center Broadway Series' and the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra. The hall has a continental seating pattern and has wheelchair locations on the orchestra level.
The hall has been recently renovated in the year 1997 and now it boasts of state-of-the-art facilities as well as a proud and rich history of great performances. To witness an event here is nothing short of spectacular and the spectacle and grandeur of the hall just adds another dimension to the magical performances.
