Opened on 11 December 1914, the Shubert Theatre CT still has a small seating capacity of 1600 seats but this never came in the way of the popularity of the theatre. It was the Shubert Brothers who built the Shubert Theater in Connecticut, two years after opening their first Shubert Theatre in New York City. Designed by New York architect, Albert Swazey, the theater was built by the H. E. Murdock construction company of New Haven. Shubert Theatre CT was built with the sole motive to provide the viewers with a live theater experience in an intimate setting.
Now, the theatre has been upgraded with a wide sparkling lobby, new comfortable seats along with a state-of-the-art sound system. It is the sole place in the city where the magic of theater, music and dance comes alive. Currently, the Shubert Theatre CT is operated by CAPA, a Connecticut Not-For-Profit Organization. The Shubert’s Night At A Performance (S.N.A.P.) program of the Shubert Theatre CT allows people to take theatre classes who might not otherwise be able to attend. As a public property, the Shubert Theatre hosts a wide array of programs keeping in mind the needs of a diverse community.
