With a seating capacity for 2,827 people, the Palace Theatre was inaugurated in 1926. In the year 1929, it was renamed the Radio Keith Orpheum (RKO). The theatre was known by the name RKO until the 1970s. The Columbus Association of the Performing Arts (CAPA) owns the theatre since the year 1989.
The theatre has been home to the performances by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the Jazz Arts Group, the Broadway Series and the CAPA-sponsored shows. It hosts popular acts like Kathleen Battle, Natalie Cole, Tommy Tune, Howie Mandel, David Sanborn, Les Ballets Africains, Mandy Patinkin, Raffi, David Copperfield, Manhattan Transfer, Andy Williams, American Indian Dance Theatre, George Benson, Michael Feinstein, Peter, Paul and Mary and Bonnie Rait. Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, the Marx Brothers, Louis Armstrong, Jackie Gleason, Jack Benny, Mae West, Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey, Burns and Allen, Eddie Cantor, Bill Robinson and Gypsy Rose Lee were some of the luminaries that the theatre has welcomed with their performances.
