The Oracle Arena has been home to the Golden State Warriors since the year 1966, however there was a one-year gap. Moreover, The Cal Golden Bears have played a few games at the arena over the years. The Oracle Arena has also the Bay Bombers (Roller Derby, 1966-1973) in addition to the California Golden Seals of the NHL from the year 1967–1976. The Oakland Skates, which is a professional roller hockey team, has also played in the Oracle Arena from 1993 to 1995.
As the years passed The Oracle Arena became increasingly outdated, and there was a dearth of the luxuries of the newer venues. So rather than building a new arena a decision was made to move ahead with a $121 million renovation. The renovation tore down most of the older arena and left the external walls, roof and foundation, etc intact. The new Oracle Arena has the capacity to seat 19,596 for basketball and 17,000 for ice hockey.
On October 20 and in the year 2006, the Golden State Warriors and the Oracle Corporation agreed to a 10-year agreement in which the arena would come to be known as The Oracle Arena. However the City-Alameda County Authority (JPA) and SMG would manage The Oracle Arena.
