The University of Virginia opened the John Paul Jones Arena on November 12, 2006. The opening was marked with a pair of victories, with Virginia women's basketball team defeating Old Dominion University and Virginia men's basketball team defeating the Arizona Wildcats. The arena was named after John Paul Jones, who was an old student of the University.
