The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is located in Speedway, Indiana. It was inaugurated in 1909 and is home to the Indianapolis 500 racing event. It is a 2.5-mile oval track with four distinct turns and straightaways. The front and back straightaways are 5/8th of a mile each while the straightaways between Turns 1 & 2 and Turns 3 & 4 are 1/8th of a mile each. The four turns are each 1/4th of a mile long. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana is famous for hosting a number of events. The first Indianapolis 500 race was held on May 30, 1911. Some other events that were held at the speedway include the NASCAR's Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, the U.S. Grand Prix for Formula One from 2000-07 and the opening ceremonies for the 1987 Pan American Games.
