Originally known as The Cafeteria, the bar changed its name to Don Barnett Arena when Wade Sheffield took over ownership in 1974. The owner desired to run a club resembling the club he hung out the most at when he was a student at at West Virginia University. Don Barnett Arena eventually became the most preferred dive bar around the metropolitan area to listen to concerts or enjoy a nightcap.
