The Charles Playhouse is a well-known off-Broadway Theater situated in Boston, Massachusetts near Beacon Hill. It was in 1839 when architect Asher Benjamin as the Fifth Universalist Church originally designed the Charles Playhouse. In 1864, the building became the first synagogue in Boston, while later it was transformed into a speakeasy known as the "The Lido Venice". Earlier, the Charles Playhouse was located at 54 Charles Street in Boston while it was later shifted to the present Warrenton Street location.

The Charles Playhouse has two different performance spaces. Downstairs, there is a 200-seat cabaret-style space. The main performance space is upstairs and can house up to 500 patrons. The Charles Playhouse is home to the Blue Man Group and the comedy Shear Madness. With a capacity of 525, the Charles Playhouse is the smallest of the four venues operated under Broadway in Boston. It has brought some of New York’s biggest hits to the city.
