The Orpheum Theater originally opened as the Pantages Theater in 1926 and is located in San Francisco, California. The theater is a performing arts venue though it has also featured vaudeville, silent films and motion pictures in the past. It began to host musicals after 1970 with the hit presentation of the musical “Hair”. The theater resembles a 12th century Spanish palace with its magnificent interiors.

The Orpheum Theater is one of the most famous venues in San Francisco and has featured stars like Liza Minnelli, Jackie Gleason and Debbie Reynolds in hugely popular shows. Since the year 1981, the theater has become a prominent venue for the Best of Broadway series. Some of the Broadway presentations in the past include Evita, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Producers and Late Night with Conan o' Brien. In 1998, the Orpheum Theater was renovated in order to make it more suitable for Broadway shows.
The 2008 season will see some entertaining performances like High School Musical, Celtic Woman, Hairspray, Eddie Izzard, The Drowsy Chaperone, Wicked and many others. The Orpheum Theater presents performances by some of the top musical companies. It has been declared as a San Francisco Historical Landmark.
