The ballroom with its stylish interior decor, courteous but watchful staff and strict policies against any alcohol consumption, was aimed to silence the critics and convince them that public dancing was not a bad thing. Soon the Aragon Ballroom was a huge success and remained a popular attraction throughout the 1940s. The Aragon ballrooms' proximity to Chicago's elevated railway helped people flock the hall. The ballroom often used to have 18,000 audience for its shows. The Aragon ballroom has hosted nearly all of the top names of the big band era. A few of the best known names would include Frank Sinatra, Tommy Dorsey, Xavier Cugat, Glenn Miller, Lawrence Welk, Guy Lombardo, Duke Ellington, Wayne King and many such avant garde artists.
Today, the Aragon ballroom hosts many Spanish language shows and also, English language rock concerts. Recent rock acts performed in the Aragon ballroom have names like Muse, Slayer, Morrissey, The Mars Volta, Snow Patrol, Franz Ferdinand and the likes. Nowadays, the Aragon ballroom is even used as an arena for hosting a wide variety of events, including wrestling matches, roller skating and even at time for disco nights.
