Gypsy is back on Broadway for an encore this spring and is better than ever. The music is composed by Jule Styne and the lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Gypsy is based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose lee who was a actress and burlesque entertainer who was born February 9th 1911 and died April 26th 1970. Gypsy Rose Lee was born Rose Louise Hovick in Seattle and became a legendary Burlesque dancer which earned her legendary status. He dance was more like a casual strip and different from the typical style of most burlesque strippers of the time.

Gypsy is now playing at the St James Theater in NY and has replaced the How the Grinch Stole Christmas and also will have some short engagements around the US at the Academy of Music in Philly and also EJ Thomas Hall in Akron Ohio.
Laura Benanti is back on Broadway in the 2008 show of Gypsy. Laura broker her neck in 2002 during the revival of “Into The Woods” She was actually misdiagnosed and spent 9 months doing physical therapy and was one small bounce away from fully being Paralyzed. Benanti is staring opposite Patti LuPone as the fierce mom Rose.
St. James Theatre is such a great place to have such a long run of the play. It is located 246 W. 44th St. Broadway, New York City, New York and orginally opened in 1927 as the The Erlanger. After Erlanger died t was taken over by the Astors who renamed it the St. James Theatre and then was bought by the Shuberts in the 1930’s. So many great shows have played at this famous theater from Oklahoma! To Hello, Dolly! 42nd street and The Producers staring Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane.
