Two young lovers, Janey Hurley and Ralph Halloran decide they don’t want a large, costly wedding in the 1953 Bronx; the bride’s family needs that money for the sinking family business. However, a dinner with the groom’s well-to-do family makes the bride’s father pridefully say he’ll contribute his life’s savings to the extravagant wedding, which includes a long guest list. Relationships are really stressed and strained to their breaking points under the demands of expensive bridesmaids’ bouquets, cake layers and other details.
