The show has got everything - torture, rape, murder and execution, all very well blended together with a liberal helping of blasphemy and bribery. It's a sizzling production with much of melodrama and grandeur. The opera is based on a famous play by Sardou, which was very well written for the amazingly popular actress Sarah Bernhardt. Sardou shrewdly crafted melodrama, and Puccini's so called librettists distilled the unique play's main attributes of sex, action, politics, lust and love into one of incredibly most popular operas of the verismo style. Almost all of the songs have been sung by the most of the famous singers of the last hundred years, and have amazed audiences with the incredible arias. The songs are beautifully composed by great Giacomo Puccini and Librettists are Giusepped Giacosa and Luigi Illica.
