Fresh off the critical and financial success of August: Osage County, Tracy Letts has debuted a new comedy/drama that is set to jump from the venerable Chicago stage at the Steppenwolf Theatre to Broadway. This time the play is Superior Donuts, a story about the Caucasian owner of a run down donut shop in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago and an African-American 21-year-old who talks his way into employment.

Superior Donuts is a much lighter work than August: Osage County and much of Lett’s oftentimes extremely violent, yet compelling earlier work. The Uptown neighborhood is changing, moving from a diverse neighborhood filled with immigrants from Eastern Europe and south of the border and a large African-American population to the beginnings of the yuppie takeover, complete with new condos.
Arthur Przybyszewski, the donut shop owner, is a man who has become withdrawn from the outside world after his days as a radical in the 1960s and the death of his ex-wife. Franco Wicks, the young African-American, is a bright young man looking for a chance in the neighborhood and, of course, running from his mistakes in the outside world as well. Superior Donuts allows Franco to draw Arthur out of his shell as he faces pressure to sell the place to the Russian owner of a video store next door in another subplot.
Superior Donuts will be moving to the Broadway stage with shows set to begin on October 1, 2009 at a stage within the Shubert theatre system. Tina Landau will direct and Michael McKean and Jon Michael Hill are expected to reprise their roles as owner and employee.
The Ticket Specialists will be the place to visit to find Superior Donuts tickets for the show, whether it is on a stage in Chicago, New York, or any other city. The site has a terrific selection of seats and a seating chart for major venues. The site also has a schedule of performances. Basically the site has everything necessary to choose the best seat and best night to enjoy Superior Donuts live.
