The prima Ballerina of the Kirov Ballet is Diana Vishneva who has brought her personal show to Orange County Performing Arts Center from February 13-17, 2008. Ms Vishneva is known to be the one of the few young dancers who were brought in the Vaganova Academy directly out of training to star in principal roles. It came up in contrast against the long-standing tradition that followed the principle of "working up through the ranks." It seemed to be the rough times at the first glance, however, it being too rough in the new Russia, seemed necessary at that phase of time. However, finally, at last, the results paid off in the end as the young dancers of the Mariinsky/Kirov developed into the quintissential prima ballerinas of the new century. Some of the dancers who earned immense name and fame include Uliana Lopatkina, Svetlana Zakharova, and Diana Vishneva.

The Kirov (also known with the name of Mariinsky) Theatre in St. Petersburg, is a world-renowned opera house. It also takes an exceptional place in the history of dance owing to its elegance and rhythm that flows freely with the melody. Kirov Ballet is known for embodying a schooling blended with a style and savoir-faire along with a performing tradition of unparallel richness that emerged in the early years of the 18th century. Several generations of dancers have come and gone after fascinating and entrancing audiences with their artistry. There are several artists who have become a name in the chapter of ballets owing to their great devotion to the ballet. Earlier. The Kirov Ballet was known with the name of Mariinsky that slowly gained world popularity. This theatre used to be the home of Russian ballet and also the opera since the 1860s. It was known as the mecca for both the Russian and international artists after being reconstructed by A Kavos. Later on, in 1860, it opened as the Mariinsky Theatre. It was renamed after the wife of the reigning Tsar Alexander II, Marina. In the last several years, the theatre has several different ruling bodies that have been changing its names from time to time. The theatre was named as the Kirov Theatre in 1919. However, again in 1992, there was an official change in its name and it was known as Mariinsky Theatre. However, despite passing fron different phases, the theatre continues to shine with its pristine glory. The theatre is still known for its splendid and elegant auditorium that is richly decorated. In fact, the theatre remains to be one of the most beautiful theatres in the world. If one turns the pages of the history, he would see how effectively and efficiently the theatre has given the famous ballet-masters and ballet- dancers including A Pavlova, M. Petipa, G.Ulanova, M.Baryshnicov and A.Nyriev. What have made this theatre a legacy for Russia are the ever-remembered performances of the world-class quality by the world-class dancers. The credit, at present times, for the outstanding recognizance of this theatre goes to the artistic and general director, Maestro Valery Gergiev who has also received an international recognition for his outstanding work.
