This theatrical masterpiece deemed a "generational play," and it mirrors the classic struggle of tradition, status quo, and age versus innovation, change and youth. Set in 1950s Pittsburgh. The drama follows the trials of Troy Maxson, who is a former baseball player in the Negro Leagues, but now he is reduced to collecting trash. Now Troy must tackle the questions and deal with his headstrong son, who has a great chance to go ahead with conviction and efforts. >> More alt

About The Fences

The play garnered the New York Drama Critics Circle and four Tony Awards, during its 1987 Broadway run. The play has been presented around the world and also acclaimed as one of the most significant African-American plays of the twentieth century. “Fences” had a tremendous success with both viewers and critics. The play drew black audiences to the theatre in huge numbers than usual. Because the Fences went through four years of pre-production development period before it finally opened on Broadway. Well these four years gave Wilson a chance to revise and tighten the action.

In the debut staging of play, James Earl Jones played the lead roles of Troy. He was very well recognized and identified with Wilson's articulated use of language which defines his black characters. After watching the play Clive Barnes, writing for the New York Post, said that Wilson provides "the strongest, most passionate American dramatic writing since Tennessee Williams." This theatrical masterpiece is opening at the Court Theater, if you want to experience this play, then hurry up grab your tickets from an on-line ticket vendor and secure your seat.
