The musical was originally written by David de Silva and was based on the famous book written by Jose Fernandez. The play revolves around the life of a bunch of undergraduate students studying at the New York High School of Performing Arts. In the struggle to make it in the tough life of the performing arts, the students get into a tangle of problems with their dreams and aspirations, with each other and with their friends and family. The school offers courses on dancing, singing, drama and the students must make the best use of these in order to make their mark in the world.

The entire play is charged with an energy and enthusiasm that has become synonymous with Fame. Even though the play does deal with some relevant issues like drug abuse, the story itself is really more about the singing and the dancing. There are about twenty characters that are followed throughout the piece and though their lives are touched on, the play does not delve too deeply into any particular character.

The cast has been chosen for a variety of strengths- some excel as singers while others are known dancers but they are all good all-rounders as well and go a long way in translating the magic of Fame to the stage. At times sexy, at other times tough and vulnerable, the cast is an extremely talented set of artists who do complete justice to the choreography of the play.
