Artist: Enchanted April
Gener: Broadway
Background:You will definitely fall in love with this sweet story of four Englishwomen and their deep friendship; how their life goes along and how their friendship blossoms in the remarkable beauty of an Italian villa. This superb uplifting romantic comedy really inspires a so called conscious desire for real joy and romance; the show has already enjoyed great success on Broadway and has been consistently making the tickets go dry. This is the new romantic comedy by very well written by Matthew Barber; who follows four beautiful English women who vacation to a very fine Italian villa; and in this smooth process they rediscover romance, laughter, excitement and themselves. This beautiful play is based on well known Elizabeth von Arnim's best-selling novel. This play has been previously adapted into a Miramax film in 1992; directed by reputed Mike Newell. Every character in the play portrays as a traditional stereotype; but as the play itself epitomizes the beautiful ladies' and matinee theatrical entertainment of a superb by-gone era. The play has been very well directed by Michael Wilson; the play has got all the feel of great sunshine and
wisteria with just enough and thorough evidence of the underlying tensions which really prompted these desperate Londoners to seek the comfortable warmth not just of sun, but of smooth loving and being loved; to unrestrained feelings. Like the best selling novel and the film; this tremendous play with its superb facile message and sweet predictable happy ending really looks awesome. The play precludes the breathtaking panoramic view of Italian vistas and it is very well soaked in the beautiful atmosphere to convey the famous restorative effect of a famous sun-soaked Italian holiday on the funny lives of four Englishwomen. The chief pleasures have been perfectly drawn from production, with some terrific performances by Molly Ringwald and Jayne Atkinson as Lotty Wilton and Rose Arnott; these two London housewives are very well presented.
These desperate housewives just need of a little enchantment to really offset their boring and joyless daily lives with their husbands. The well defined cast of the play comprises: Jayne Atkinson as Lotty Wilton, Molly Ringwald as Rose Arnott, Michael Cumpsty as Mellersh Wilton, Daniel Gerroll as Frederick Arnott, Dagmara Dominczyk as Lady Caroline Bramble, Elizabeth Ashley as Mrs. Graves, Michael Hayden as Antony Wilding, and Patricia Conolly as Costanza. The beautiful set has been designed by Tony Straiges. Colorful and well adapted set has been designed by Jess Goldstein. Original music and soothing sound has been contributed by Rui Rita.
