Edward Scissorhands is a ballet by Matthew Bourne and his company New adventures. It has been adapted from motion picture 'Edward Scissorhands' by Tim Burton. Edward Scissorhands is an emotional and fairytale about a boy named Edward who is left alone after his lonely inventor dies leaving him incomplete. His hands are a pair of scissors and and he is left no one for searching place in a new and unfamiliar world. Matthew Bourne is the director and choreographer for Edward Scissorhands. Matthew Bourne is an acclaimed and award winning choreographer. He has been choreographing musical and ballads for past many years. “ Overlap Lovers” was his first professional stage production. In 1987 he founded a dance company named “Adventures in Motion Pictures”. In 2000 his work was also included in a movie ' Billy Elliot'. A version of The Nutcracker was directed and choreographed by him. In 2002 the version played at Sadler Wells Theatre in London for Christmas season. In 2004 it again played at the Royce Hall of University of California, Los Angeles or U.C.L.A. in United states of America.
He has also been associated with 'Play Without Words' which was inspired by film entitled ' The Servant' the work was directed and choreographed by him twice once in 2002 and again in 2003. His work won him an OBE in year of 2004. His choreography of ' Mary Poppins' won him an Olivier Award in February of 2005. ' Play Without Words ' was played in Los Angeles in 2005. A lecture was organized by Kevin Norte for screening of film ' The Servant' at the Egyptian Theatre of Grauman in Hollywood. Bourne at the lecture discussed about the elements of film which were utilized by him for stage production of 'Play Without Words'. The lecture was attended by a full house. In 2004 a book titled ' Matthew Bourne and His Adventures in Motion Pictures' was released by Matthew Bourne.
Edward Scissorhands happens to be the latest work by him. The ballad in now on a world tour. It will soon play at Ahmanson Theatre of Center Theatre Group in London. Edward Scissorhands from August to September played in Japan at the Kani Hoken Hall. Ballad is set to be played at many more places and at several prestigious theaters.
