Don Giovanni is neither a comedy nor a tragedy. It lies between this two genres, making sense of a tragi-comedy. The opera begins with Don Giovanni, a libertine nobleman, trying to take away Donna Anna, the Commandant’s daughter. Anna as well as her father try to resist her from Don's clutches. Don kills Anna's father. In the next scene Don's neglected wife Donna Elvira enters but Don manages to slip away. The next scene revolves round the supposed marriage of Zerlina, a pleasant girl and Masetto. Don enters into the scene and succeeds in parting Zerlina from her beloved. Don is a clever man and he intelligently invites both Zerlina and Masetto to a ball so that he can fulfill his dream. He dances with Zerlina and tempts her from the ball room. Zerlina shrieks and when he is caught he tries to put the offence on Leporello, his servant.

In the Second Act, Don and Leporello are discovered in front of Donna Elvira’s house. Giovanni changes his cloths and pretends to be Elvira's maid servant. He also helps Leporello change his dress so that no one can track out him. In the meantime Masetto arrives and believing Don to be Leporello asks about his master's whereabouts. Masetto comes in full gear with other peasants and reveals in front of Leporello that they will kill Don. Don shows them the path which Elvira and Leporello have just taken. Giovanni, by a ruse, manges to beat Masetto unmercifully. On the other hand, Leporello also succeeds to escape.

In the next scene Don and Leporello are seen making conversation in front of the dead Commandant's statue. The statue speaks out and reveal that Don's end is near. Don is unmoved and he invites the statue for supper. During supper the statue comes and Elvira requests her husband to change his vicious mood of life. But Don doesn't listen to her and the statue grasps his hand. As a result Don loses his life.

All in all the opera is a pure entertainment source for audience of any age. Beautiful music and sharp characterization runs throughout the opera.
