Chicago - The Musical

An indisputable Broadway landmark, Chicago is a dark yet delightful musical tale of all the good things in life – murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery, and treachery. For a show that is chock full of dirty deeds, return to the days of prohibition in Chicago and spend some time with two enchanting murderesses, Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, and their slick lawyer Billy Flynn, all while enjoying the choreography of a Bob Fosse show. >> More alt

About Chicago - The Musical

While Chicago uses little scenery and simple costumes, it is filled with one big musical performance after another, while the classic John Kander and Fred Ebb’s score keeps the whole show moving at the rate of a speeding bullet. With moves that are still as steamy and suggestive as they were with the debut of Chicago in 1975, the dancers are not only electrifying, but seem to be constantly paying tribute to the original choreography of Bob Fosse with every tip of their hats.

Having debuted on Broadway at the 46th Street Theatre in June of 1975, Chicago then remained there while stringing together a total of 936 performances. The original production was not only choreographed by the iconic Bob Fosse, but it is marked with his style throughout the entire show. Chicago's returned to Broadway in 1996 and, after having played more than 5000 shows to date, holds the record for the longest-running musical revival and seventh longest-running show in the history of Broadway! In addition to the Broadway comeback, productions of Chicago have taken place worldwide, including London's West End, and in 2002, the musical was also made into an extremely successful Academy Award-winning film.

Chicago is based on a 1926 play of the same name, written by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins about the actual criminals and related events on which she had originally reported. Set in prohibition era Chicago and based on a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, the music of John Kander and lyrics of Ebb provide a satirical look at a corrupt criminal justice system as it deals with “celebrity” criminals.

Simple in its presentation, Chicago may appeal to younger fans of Broadway who can appreciate the non-stop theatrical excitement of this legendary show. Parents should keep in mind however, that Chicago’s hot topics do include violence and adultery, with both being expressed through bits of somewhat off-color dialogue here and there, but mostly presented through such means that keep the show on as innocent a level as anything the kids can find on television these days.

For an experience to remember, get your Chicago tickets now and enjoy this classic musical hit at the Ambassador Theatre in New York with a fun date, a group of Broadway loving fans, or even the entire family.
