Feel the excitement as the world-class dancers perform athletic lifts, complicated dance steps, and amazing group dances, as choreographed by former world champion Jason Gilkison. The action is nonstop throughout the show’s 25 numbers, most of which are also backed up by a lively pair of singers and an onstage quartet, in addition to the rest having recorded music. The show is divided into two acts, loosely progressing from classic to contemporary dance, with the audience most likely being too caught up in the amazing performance of the dancers to even sneak a peek at their programs. Simply put, Burn the Floor is filled with moments that will leave patrons asking themselves “How did they do that?”
Burn the Floor leads theatre-goers on a journey through the passionate drama of everything related to traditional forms of dance. From Harlem's heated evenings at The Savoy where dances such as the Lindy, Foxtrot, and Charleston were born, to the Latin Quarter where the Cha-Cha, Rumba, and Salsa steamed up the stage, Burn the Floor is a sexy twenty-first century interpretation of ballroom dance.
Fans of Dancing with the Stars also have good reason to see Burn the Floor, or even see it again – popular DWTS professionals Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Kym Johnson will be joining the cast on November 27th. Maks appeared in the first three weeks of the Broadway run, including opening night, while originally partnered with Karina Smirnoff, and Johnson will be making her Broadway debut after having been an original Burn the Floor cast member in 1999.
While there may be sexy undertones and plenty of skimpy costumes in the show, Burn the Floor is basically fine for children, especially if they have already shown enthusiasm by watching the ballroom-based reality television series Dancing with the Stars.
This Broadway production has already seen two extensions, and is currently scheduled at the Longacre Theatre in New York through January 10, 2010.
