The gripping plot of this musical deals with life of Annie. Actually Annie is a rifle woman and once during a shooting contest, she beats Frank Butler. This is a great win for Annie as Frank is the popular sharpshooting star of Buffalo Bill's famous Wild West Show. Now, enters the twist in the tale, as eventually Annie falls in love with Frank. Now, her superb skills as shooter are thoroughly recognized and consequently she becomes a star and also steals Frank's popular show from him. On the other hand Frank feels that he is loosing is self confidence so he rush away. With this cowardice act by Frank,
Annie feels heartbroken. Fortunately, both meet again and finally declare their deep love for each other. Love melts all; Frank rises above his fake pride and went on to form partnership with Annie. The show saw its UK premiere at the huge Coliseum on 7th June, 1947 and successful ran for 1304 performances. During its UK premier, Annie's role was essayed by Dolores Gray and Bill Johnson played Frank Butler. Annie Get Your Gun's original production was a tremendous success; it went on to run for 1147 performances.
With such a success, this musical became the longest running musical play of the 1940's. This superb music proved a stepping stone in Ethel Merman's career.
