The story follows those two Chicago police officers after they unknowingly return a terrified Vietnamese boy to man that claims to be the boys uncle. The boy is discovered to be the latest victim of the man, who is in reality a serial killer and cannibal. A Steady Rain then looks in on as the cops, two old friends, try to weigh their friendship while they decide who must fall on the sword for the tragedy.
The play was written by Keith Huff. Huff prior works include Pursued By Happiness, The Detective’s Wife, and Tell Us of the Night. A Steady Rain, his latest creation, is a noir tale that is gritty, yet rich with poetic lines.
The simple set, a room with a table and two chairs, pits the two cops, who are life long friends that have known each other since they grew up under the Dan Ryan expressway overpass, must come to the grips of their inaction and sacrifice one for the terrible crime they let happen.
In 95 minutes Huff, an MFA graduate from the University of Iowa again proves that he is playwright worth noting. That play is heading east thanks to the support of producers Barbara Broccoli, Frank Gero, and Raymond L. Gaspard. The original pair of Chicago actors, Randy Steinmeyer and Peter DeFario are being replaced by two movie stars, Hugh Jackman and David Craig for a 12-week run.
