The Davis Cup began as a friendly tennis competition between the United States and Great Britain in 1900. Four tennis players from Harvard conceived the idea and began organizing the matches. That competition grew quickly, expanding the field to six teams just five years later. The Davis Cup was also originally known as the International Lawn Tennis Challenge, but adopted the current name after the original cup Dwight Davis, one of the organizers of the game, had purchased to award the winner. Davis Cup tickets continued to increase in popularity and the tournament grew to include all the willing participants from around the world.

The tournament not only made tennis an international competition, but helped spawn the venerable grand slam tournaments that are still celebrated today. Since, up to 1973, only a team from the United States, Great Britain, Australia, and France had won the competition, these countries went on to host Grand Slam tournaments. Davis Cup tickets are truly a treat for those who enjoy the competition and history of tennis.
Currently, the Davis Cup is broken into five groups. The World Group has the 16 best teams fighting for the championship, and then the competition is broken down into three geographical locations with each having four divisions based on a relegation system, with the ultimate goal to enter the top 16 field to play for the Davis Cup itself. Tickets to these matches are just as enjoyable in this year round tournament that truly brings the world together.
Each team represents the best players in the nation. They have four players and five matches, or ties, are played over three days. The first day there are two singles matches, the second day there is a doubles match, and the last day there is another round of single matches. In the past few years the Cup has been open game. Spain, the U.S., Russia, Croatia, Australia, and France have won since the turn of the century. Davis Cup tickets are exciting because old grudges still remain, but in this new era nobody is quite sure who will win it all.
