In a very short span of time, the club rose to glowing heights, winning the Copa Macaya in the year 1901 and reaching the final of the Copa Del Rey the next year. It was also successful in the Campionat de Catalunya, or the Catalan football championship, winning it 21 times from the years 1904 to 1938.
The period between the years 2000 and 2003 proved to be challenging times for the club as it struggled both domestically and also in Europe.
Three managers were appointed and sacked during the period, which saw Luis Figo join archrivals Real Madrid and the resignation of President Joan Gaspart.
The club struggled again in the 2007-2008 year season and was not even able to finish in the top two of the Primera Division.
The main stadium of the club is the Camp Nou and the supporters of the team are known as culers. The interesting fact is that in Catalonia, about half of the population are said to be Barca supporters.
