The Players Championship is golf tournament on the PGA Tour that is held annually. The championship is said to be the most important tournament, other than the four golf majors. Outside of the majors, it is the leading event on the tour. The first one was held in 1974 at the Atlanta Country Club in Marietta, GA and then moved to the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, TX in 1975. It was relocated in 1977 to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL at Sawgrass Country Club’s Oceanside Course. It was played at the Stadium Course across from the Sawgrass Country Club since 1982.

Last year, Phil Mickelson seemed to have everything under control during the final round. He shot a 69, which led him to victory, his first in this tournament. He beat Sergio Garcia, who finished earlier in the day, by 2 strokes. He fought Sean O’Hair throughout the last round; O’Hair then put 2 balls in the water, which allowed Mickelson to finish at 277. The Championship will be held May 5th through 11th at the Players Stadium Course at the Players Club at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL this year. If you can’t make it there, you can watch the game on the Golf Channel and NBC.
