About Quail Hollow Championship
With the exception of one event, all others have been won by American Tour professionals, though that won exception was carved out by one of the game’s greatest, the sweet-swinging Vijay Singh of Fiji. He took top honors in the 2005 event, carding a 12 under par 276 to win nearly 1.1 million dollars in prize money that year, and in the process helping to sell a lot of Quail Hollow Championship tickets.
The format for the event is the PGA-standard “stroke play,” meaning that the golfer who has the least amount of strokes taken for the entire tournament will take top spot. All other players fall in behind the winner, and prize money is divvied up accordingly. The course is a par 72, with almost 7500 yards of greens, traps, bunkers and fairways on tap. Such a course manages to entice a great many fans, all of who buy up large numbers of Quail Hollow Championship tickets every event.
The event’s actual title sponsor is Wells Fargo Bank, which bought up the previous sponsor, Wachovia Bank in 2008.
