The Merrill Lynch Shootout happens in the Tiburón Golf Club located in Naples, Florida. What the Tiburón actually consists of is 36 holes designed by the great Greg Norman. This is a 3-day, 54-hole stroke play event that consists of two teams which compete against each other. The first round which is hosted on Friday uses what is called the modified alternate shot rule, the second round is on Saturday and uses what is known as the better ball rule, the third and final round is on Sunday and uses the Scramble rule.
The Merrill Lynch Shootout was originally a golfing event broadcast in the America by the famous USA network as well as CBS. The USA broadcasts the initial round on a tape-delayed basis, and CBS handles the second round which is live. However there are times when the entire country does not see the final round live as CBS is mostly committed to the NFL and only shows the Merrill Lynch Shootout in some parts of the United States. Much of the United States sees the event start at 4 p.m. Eastern Time. Later in 2007 the event was moved to the month of December and was also broadcast live by the Golf Channel and NBC.
The winner of the 2008 Merrill Lynch Shootout was Kenny Perry how will also be 2009’s defending champion. Perry was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky and was later raised in Franklin, Kentucky. His Father Ken introduced him to the game of golf when he was 7. He later began playing golf in high school. Later when his father accepted a job in Paducah he began playing for his new school i.e. Lone Oak High School. After his graduation he began to attend Western Kentucky University. Many people who saw him play during those days knew that he was going to become professional soon. Winning the Merrill Lynch Shootout was just one of his many achievements.
The Merrill Lynch Shootout is not as easy as it first looks and the course is really hard to pot. The course if often windy and wind conditions can change at a drop of a hat. This is why it’s imperative that golfers even which lots of experience know exactly what they are up against.
