The British Open was first held at Royal Birkdale in the striking coastal town of Southport, England in 1954. Peter Thomson won his first of 5 Open Championships. Another 6 Open Championships have been held at the Lancashire course, which is believed to be the best English course on the Open circuit. One of Britain’s finest golf clubs, the Royal Birkdale hosted 2 Ryder Cups, the Walker and Curtis Cups, the Women’s British Open and the Open Championship and was called one of the best courses in Britain.

From July 17th through 22nd, the 137th British Open Championship will be held at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club for the 9th time. The world’s best golfers will be competing for golf’s oldest and most desirable trophy, The Claret Jug. In preparation for this event, the Royal Birkdale was lengthened by 154 yards and was upgraded in various other areas as well.
