The Phoenix Coyotes came into existence in 1996. They belong to the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the NHL. The team has its origin back in 1972. The team Winnipeg Jets was born in Canada in 1972 under the World Hockey Association. In 1979, this team joined the NHL and finally, in 1996, it had moved to Phoenix. After that, the Winnipeg Jets came to be known as the Phoenix Coyotes. In their very first year, the Coyotes assembled established players like, Jeremy Roenick from the Chicago Blackhawks, Keith Tkachuk and Rick Tocchet. In order to form a complete team, many new and young players were also given the chance to play with the team. Shane Doan, Nikolai Khabibulin, Oleg Tverdovsky were some of those new players.

The US Airways Center used to be the home arena for the Coyotes. In 2003, the team moved to their present arena, Jobing.com arena. This team would make the playoffs in almost every year but never won a playoff series since 1987. After a long series of unsuccessful games, the Phoenix tried to upgrade the team performance in the 2007-08 season. They picked the likes of Peter Mueller, Martin Hanzal, Radim Vrbata, Alex Auld, David Aebischer, Mikael Tellqvist. Despite having star players, the team could not make it to the playoffs that season. It ended up with a 31-26-4 score. The Coyotes have not been able to grab any title till date.
