The Ottawa Senators are an NHL team based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and are members of the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference. They are the 2007 Eastern Conference champions, are the holders of the Prince of Wales Trophy and runner-up in the 2007 Stanley Cup Finals. Their home games are played at the Scotiabank Place, which was originally called the Palladium and then the Corel Centre. The team was established by Ottawa real estate developer Bruce Firestone; they are the 2nd team with the Ottawa Senators name. The original Ottawa Senators were established in 1883 and had a famous history; they won 11 Stanley Cups and played in the league from 1917 to 1934. Firestone led a two-year public campaign to bring the NHL back to Ottawa and was awarded the team on December 6, 1990.

The Senators have had 2 changes in ownership starting with Firestone; he sold the team to Rod Bryden in 1993 because of the arena development process and financing issues. Bryden then sold them to Eugene Melnyk after the team filed for bankruptcy in 2003. The Senators finished last in the league for their 1st 4 seasons; but changes in their management led to much-needed improvement, which resulted in the Senators making it to the playoffs every season for the last 10 years. They also won the Presidents’ Trophy in 2003. Currently, the team is one of the most successful in the NHL in attendance and standings. They have many all-star players and one of the league’s top lines: the “CASH” or “Pizza” line.
