The Nashville Predators are an NHL team based in Nashville, TN and are members of the Central Division of the Western Conference. Their home games are played at Sommet Center, which was formerly called the Gaylord Entertainment Center and Nashville Arena. Hockey first showed up in Tennessee in 1962 in the form of the Eastern Hockey League’s Dixie Flyers. In 1995, the rumor was that the New Jersey Devils were relocating to the Nashville Arena. The city offered a $20 million relocation bonus to any team willing to relocate; the Devils tried to end their lease with New Jersey, but they restructured and decided to stay where they were. The Predators showed up in the NHL in 1998 as an expansion team.
