In 1982, the Vancouver Canucks would begin their run for the Stanley Cup. They made their first significant playoff impact during the post-season that year. The team moved to the Stanley Cup finals and played against the Flames, the Kings and the Blackhawks. The Vancouver Canucks ticket holders were happy since their team was the first Canadian team to play for the Stanley Cup in 56 years. However the miracle wouldn't last and the Vancouver Canucks lost to the New York Islanders. This would be the last playoff series for the team until 1992.

Throughout the 1980's and early 1990's,. the Vancouver Canucks saw a steady decline. For the rest of the 1980's the team would only make the playoffs four times. The times that they did make the playoffs they were almost immediately eliminated by either the Oilers or the Flames. With the way the playoffs were structured, they always had to get past either the Canucks or the Flames to go any further.
Finally in 1994 the Vancouver Canucks ticket holders watched as their team made another run for the Stanley Cup. The Vancouver Canucks finally defeated the Flames and moved on to defeat the Stars and the Maple Leafs, both in five games. This time the Vancouver Canucks would meet the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals. They managed to win game one 3-2. They also won games five and six, pushing the series into a game seven. But the Vancouver Canucks couldn't pull it off yet again and lost to the Rangers 3-2.
The Vancouver Canucks are lucky to have one of the best goaltenders in the NHL playing for them as well as the most talked about free agents in the league this year. That may be where the Vancouver Canucks luck ends this year though. While the team has everything it needs to be a success this season, the team will still be counting on the strength of some new and inexperienced players on the ice. These young players need to step up and take control. If all the pieces fall into place, you just might see the Vancouver Canucks at the Stanley Cup Finals this year.
