This expansion team belongs to the Central Division of the Western Conference of the NHL. It was founded in 1967 in St. Louis, Missouri. This team plays their home game in the Scottrade Center arena. They played their first game in 1968. In its first year, the Blues were a good team with players like Glenn Hall and Jacques Plante. In the first season of their career, they reached the playoffs. In the 1968 playoffs, they defeated the Los Angeles Kings and the Minnesota North Stars in the first two rounds. But, in the finals, they lost to the Montreal Canadiens. In the next year (1969) Stanley Cup finals, again the Blues would face the powerful Montreal Canadiens. This time also, the Canadiens suppressed them. In the 1970 playoffs, they lost to the Boston Bruins.

The Blues missed the playoffs for the first time since their inception in 1973-74. Later, from 1979 to 2004, they made continuous playoffs. The 1980s and 1990s were significant decades for the Blues. In 1980s, they got some good players like Mike Liut, Bernie Federko, Doug Gilmour, and Joe Mullen. Brett Hull joined the team in 1990s. He is one of the great players of the NHL. He scored 86 goals in the 1990-91 season, which bagged him the Hart Trophy as most valuable player of 1991.
