Montreal Canadiens is a hockey team based in Montreal, Quebec. The club is officially known as 'Le Club de Hockey Canadien'. Canadiens are the members of the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League. The team has its origin way back, even before the formation of the NHL. It was founded by Ambrose O'Brien with Jack Laviolette on December 4, 1909. The Canadiens are the oldest existing club in the league till date. The club played its first game on January 5, 1910 in the National Hockey Assiociation under the coaching of Jack Laviolette. In the 1914-15 NHA season, Canadiens introduced their famous team sweaters. It was red in colour with blue stripe across the middle and a red 'C' inside the stripe. In 1916, by defeating Portland Rosebuds of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association, the Canadiens won their first Stanley Cup. It was 1924, when they won their second Stanley Cup against Calgary Tigers. Their victory in the Stanley Cup continued till 1930. The Canadiens maintain a very powerful and remarkable career in the NHL history.
