Montreal Canadiens

After their first year, the Montreal Canadiens ownership was transferred to George Kennedy and ever since, the team has seen great amounts of success. Winning their first Stanley Cup in the 1915-1916 as members of the NHA and then winning their first NHL Stanley Cup in the 1926-1927 season, the team was destined for success it seems from the beginning. >> More alt

About The Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens ticket holders saw success during the 1930s, especially in the beginning of the decade. The team saw the Stanley Cup in 1930 and 1931. During the period of 1952-1960, the team would also win six more Stanley Cups. This included a record 5 straight cup wins from 1956-1960. The beginning of the 1960's were somewhat sloe for the team, but come the middle of the decade, the team would see 10 more championships during the next 15 years and another 4 in a row from 1976 to 1979.

While the 1980s through the 2000s the team met mild success, nothing came close to comparing to those first 40 years. The team would see one Stanley Cup in the 1980's and one more in the 1990's. The turn of the century also wasn't the kindest to the team. They saw only one division championship in 2007-2008. But in December, the Montreal Canadiens would become the first team in the history of the NHL to reach an impressive 3000 wins in their career.

2009 Season Preview

The Montreal Canadiens have made significant additions as well as deletions to the 2009-2010 roster. Currently the team has 19 players which are under one way contracts. The four that will most likely fill the team’s roster are Carey Price, Sergei Kostitsyn, Matt D'Agostini and Gregory Stewart. With these added to the others for a total of 23 players, the Montreal Canadiens salary cap is at about $56 million. This will be the team’s 101st season playing hockey and they will start the year off with a revamped starting line. Their defensive group may be bigger than in the past years but they don't seem as agile on the ice. The team should finish in the top 3 or 4 by the end of the year and have a good chance of making the playoffs if they focus on the team's many strengths and draw from past experiences.
