Minnesota is currently in fourth place in the Northwest Division and 10th in the Western Conference with 58 points and a 27-23-4 record. Not a surprise, the Wild are much better at home than on the road with records of 18-6-2 and 9-17-2 respectively, so home is where the heart is for this team.

Led by their two leading scorers, center Mikko Koivu – first in points (49), goals (16), and assists (33) – and leftwing Andrew Brunette (41 points – 14 goals, 27 assists), the Wild needs others to contribute a little more if they wish to have a more balanced attack during the remainder of the season. Look for offseason acquisition rightwing Martin Havlat (37 points, 26 assists), defenseman Marek Zidlicky (33 points, 29 assists), center Eric Belanger (32 points, 19 assists), and rightwing Antti Miettinen (29 points, 15 goals) all to increase their output in support of Koivu and Brunette in order to provide the firepower needed for them to make the playoffs come March.
Backing up Minnesota’s offensive weapons is the team’s highly talented trio of defensemen – Brett Burns, Kim Johnsson, and Zidlicky – who all have the ability to make the big breakout passes, while contributing equally at both ends of the ice. Behind the defense is Niklas Backstrom, a goaltender which has some room to improve on his 22-16-4 record, 2.74 goals against average, and .901 save percentage.
The Minnesota Wild is a tough team that just needs for things to come together a little more in order to make their way into playoff contention by the end of the regular season. They do have a lot of potential talent, so get some tickets now and be there as they make a run at the playoffs over the remaining course of the season.
When some of the team’s younger forwards are finally ready, the Minnesota Wild will finally be able to benefit from their implemented open system. Currently there isn't much to work with on the team. It will take the hard work of the veteran players to show the kids the ropes and to push them to their limit. If Brent Burned is able to return from his injury healthy enough for hard play, the team will be lucky to have their star defenseman again. He may be one of the players that a strong team can be built around.
