St. Louis Rams

After finishing what had to be a very long 2009 season at 1-15 (0-8 home, 1-7 away), the St. Louis Rams will have the first pick in the 2010 draft. While there is nothing out there but speculation at this point, even for the Rams themselves, some draft experts are predicting St. Louis will choose one of the top two defensive tackles – Oklahoma’s Gerald McCoy or Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh – to join last year’s Rams Rookie of the Year and NFL All-Rookie selection, linebacker James Laurinaitis in shoring up the St. Louis D, while others are thinking they may pick quarterback, either Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen from Notre Dame. St. Louis can probably not go wrong with any of the four, but stay tuned because whomever the choice, it will go along way in determining the direction the Rams are set to take in the immediate future! >> More alt

About The St. Louis Rams

Although Marc Bulger (140 for 247, 1,469 YDS, 5 TD in only 9 games) seems to be a more-than-adequate quarterback under most game conditions, he has had problems with injuries – missing 31 games and playing only two complete seasons in ten years – which disqualify him as the guy a team would look to rebuild around. The only real solid offensive threat the Rams have had in recent years is running back Steven Jackson who became the first player in franchise history to rush for 1,000+ yards in five consecutive seasons, passing Eric Dickerson’s four, while also becoming the fourth Ram to lead the NFC in rushing, joining such former all-star Rams runners as Charles White, Lawrence McCutcheon, and Dickerson. Through the air, wide receiver Donnie Avery was the team’s leading receiver with 47 receptions for 589 yards and 5 touchdowns, while wide out/kick-returner Danny Amendola’s 2,302 yards made him the fourth Rams player to surpass 2,000 combined yards in a season joining Dickerson, Marshall Faulk, and Jackson.

Another positive for St. Louis last year came on the defense, where first-year standout linebacker James Laurinaitis stood head and shoulders above the rest, leading the team’s second-ranked tackler by 46! Laurinaitis not only led the Rams in tackles (120) and solos (107) but also added 13 assists, 2 sacks, 4 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, and 2 interceptions as a rookie. With the number two, three, and fourth-ranked tacklers playing in the secondary and topping the top four D-lineman by nearly 50 combined tackles, maybe McCoy or Suh is the way to go in draft, because Laurinaitis can’t do it alone upfront and you can’t leave things like that up to the secondary.

With the top pick in the draft ready to step in and help right away no matter who it is, and key players like Steven Jackson and James Laurinaitis solidifying each side of the ball for St. Louis, things are definitely looking up for 2010. Don't miss what could very well be a surprising and exciting team. 2009 Season Preview

Coming off a 2-14 record in 2008, the St. Louis Rams ticket holders will have to have faith in their team that they can come off two really dreadful seasons. As the new General Manager, Bill Devaney's first move was to bring in a new head coach, previous defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. The next order of business with the St. Louis Rams is to upgrade the defense then rebuild the offense.

New offensive and defensive coordinators Pat Shurmur and Ken Flajole were hired by Spagnuolo and the St. Louis Rams picked up Ravens center Jason Brown on a record contract to play for the Rams. In May it was announced that the team would be put up for sale. While the sale price is unknown, the estimated value is $929 million. A group is forming to hopefully buy and keep the franchise in St. Louis.
