The Washington Redskins last great playoff run came in 1991. Mark Rypien was a surprise at quarterback, winning the Super Bowl MVP in a season the Redskins went 14-2. Since that incredible season Washington has been searching for the magic that helped cap off a great run under head coach Joe Gibbs. The team has only been back to the playoffs four times since and has not won the NFC East title. Playoff tickets have been in short supply, but the fans have remained loyal throughout the struggles.

In 2005 and 2007 the Redskins finally made it back to the postseason. Redskins playoff tickets showed promise in 2005. Quarterback Mark Brunell redeemed himself after a terrible season the year prior. Clinton Portis proved he was one of the most dangerous running backs in the NFL and Santana Moss spread the field as a number one option for the quarterback. The defense was simply put tough. Though the Redskins lost in the divisional round to the Bucs, the defense would remain tough for the next few seasons.
That tough defense was the key for the 2007 squad that made the playoffs with young Jason Campbell taking over at quarterback. The Redskins need that defense again this season as Campbell continues to develop and all of Washington hopes to be looking for playoff tickets again this season. The defensive line is anchored by Cornelius Griffin and Jason Taylor, the linebackers are led by London Fletcher, and the secondary starts with cornerback Shawn Springs and safety LaRon Landry.
Campbell looked very good at times last season. If he builds on last season’s success the fourth-year quarterback has a couple of playmakers at his disposal. Clinton Portis is fast back with the quickness to slip through the holes and the hands to be an effective check down back. Santana Moss may not be the receiver he used to be, but the undersized wide out has a history of shocking people despite his supposed physical limitations. Chris Cooley is what every quarterback wants, a big target with great hands. If the Redskins are to make playoff tickets to FedEx Field available, then Campbell will need to learn to use these guys to their fullest potential. The NFC East is tough this seasons and a stellar defense will not be enough.
