San Diego Chargers

The San Diego Chargers last trip to the Super Bowl came in 1994. That year the team entered a huge underdog and played to the expectations, losing 49-26. The team of Stan Humphries at quarterback, Tony Martin as wide receiver, running back Natrone Means, and a tough defense that had Junior Seau, Reuben Davis, Shawn Lee, and Leslie O’Neal failed to stop the 49ers. San Francisco rolled to an easy victory and the Chargers were left wondering what had happened. In the years since playoff tickets have come and gone and the Chargers have tried to get a chance to redeem themselves. >> More alt

About The San Diego Chargers

San Diego tried to bring a new high powered offense back to Qualcomm Stadium and succeeded after drafting LaDainian Tomlinson and Drew Brees in 2001. The two made the Chargers a much better team, taking the club to a 12-4 record in 2004. The team failed to take the Chargers playoff tickets any farther than the first round, losing to the New York Jets, but a future run had begun. Even after Brees left in 2006, Philip Rivers was able to step in and take the club to a 14-2 record over the regular season schedule. An early round loss disappointed the fans, but the next year the Chargers recovered from a slow start to make it to the AFC Championship game before losing to the Patriots.

This season the Patriots have a long way to go. The loss of Tom Brady for the season puts their postseason hopes in the hands of Matt Cassel. The Chargers have a major loss of their own, Shawne Merrriman, but the defense should be able to regroup. The line backers are much weaker now, but Igor Olshansky, Jamal Williams, and Luis Castillo should have no problem stopping the run at the defensive line. Quentin Jammer and Antonio Cromartie are two great corner backs who grew up in the playoffs in 2007. The linebackers and the safeties must protect the middle of the field if the playoff tickets fans are sure to buy are to go farther than the wild card round.

Chargers playoff tickets are a guarantee because the offense is so good. Behind a terrific offensive line are quarterback Philip Rivers and running back LaDainian Tomlinson. The two can make big things happen every game. Rivers has his choice of targets. Antonio Gates is one of the best receiving tight ends in the league and Chris Chambers is a solid possession receiver. Vincent Jackson became the big play guy last season when everyone was wondering how the Chargers were going to attack the deep part of the field to keep the safeties honest. San Diego is a virtual lock in the AFC West and are one of the strong contenders for the best team in the league this season, with or without Merriman.
