The Green Bay Packers have been on the most dominant forces in the league despite being from one the leagues smallest markets. The Packers have 12 NFL championships, nine before the Super Bowl’s inception, and three after. The Packers and Vince Lambardi were so successful in the ‘60s that the Super Bowl trophy is called the Lambardi Trophy.

About The Green Bay Packers
The Packers success before Lombardi came in the decade from 1929 to 1939. The team won five championships and developed a rivalry with the equally as dominant Chicago Bears that survives to this day despite the rise and fall of the teams over their long histories.
The Lombardi years from 1959 to 1967 resulted in five championships in seven years. Quarterback Bart Starr, running backs Jim Taylor and Paul Hornung, and a defense with Henry Jordan, Willie Wood, Ray Nitschke, Dave Robinson, and Herb Adderley provided the dearth of talent for the incredible dynasty.
The Packers were absolutely dreadful for nearly 25 years after Lombardi, but that would change with a trade that brought the team Brett Favre. Favre struggled as a backup for the Falcons in his first season, but was given the chance to play when the Packer’s quarterback went down with an injury in his first season with Green Bay.
Favre had a career that ended in 2007 that included a Super Bowl victory in 1997 and a plethora of records that include the most touchdown passes in history, the most passing yards in history, and the most completions in history. The Packers won seven division championships over the span of his career and were constantly threatening to go the bug game.
The Packers are going into their first year without Brett Favre leading the team behind the center. Aaron Rodgers will take over and must weather the high expectations that come with following a living legend. He is supported by running back Ryan Grant, who had a breakout year last season after being on the practice squad, and wide receiver Greg Jennings, who is in his third year.
The defense was young last season, but played extremely well, holding teams to 18 points a game. The only place the Packers can really look to improve in the offseason is in the secondary. The secondary proved to be the teams Achilles heal last season in the playoffs.
Lambeau Field will have interesting season with the Packers in flux and a schedule that allows some room for error.
