Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills name was a result of a local contest to name the team. The Bills are named after the AAFC Buffalo Bills, a previous franchise that had merged with the Cleveland Browns. The Team is named after Buffalo Bill Cody of the Wild West and the Bills cheerleaders are known as the Buffalo Jills, and mascotted by Billy Buffalo. >> More alt

About The Buffalo Bills

After the merger of the NFL and the AFL in 1970, the Buffalo Bills began to struggle to find a foothold in the league. Their AFL success was now long gone and even after acquiring O.J. Simpson in a draft, the teal would not find success. Even with O.J.'s 2000 yard rush total for the 1973 season. They would continue the tough struggle for a decade.

It wasn't until the 1983 draft when the team picked up quarterback Jim Kelly that the team would begin to show some improvement. It took two years for Kelly to start playing for the team, but he would prove to be one of the keys, alongside running back Thurman Thomas, that would take the Buffalo Bills ticket holders to six AFC division titles in eight years and four Super Bowl visits. Unfortunately though for the team's “No Huddle” defense, they would not win any of those Super Bowls.

The 2000's have proved to be less than fruitful for the team as well. The Buffalo Bills ticket sales have dropped because of the lack of success on the field for the team. They will spend the 2000's struggling to find their glory days of the late 1980's and early 1990's.

2009 Season Preview

Much to the dismay of Buffalo Bills ticket holders, the team picked up free agent Terrell Owens and gave him a one year contract. The team seemed willing to take on the controversial player when basically nobody else wanted him. The fact he made the headlines, and not the good ones, in San Francisco, Philadelphia and Dallas didn't put off the CEO or the head coach from going after T.O

The heads of the Buffalo Bill organization must think a lot of Owens to pick him up since the team still appears to have a huge gaping hole in their roster. There is almost no chance that with the team as it is, that they will be able to overpower the Patriots or the Dolphins.

With Owens past, any extended period of losing for the team will surely set him off and you can be assured he will once again be on the front pages dissing his team. No matter when his playing time ends with the team, you can rest assured knowing it wont end well and he will once again be cast off.
