The Buffalo Bills have seen there ups and downs. The Bills dominated the AFL with a stingy defense led by linebackers Harry Jacobs, Mike Stratton, and John Tracey. The franchise won two championships and played in three consecutive championship games.

After the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 the Bills began to struggle to compete. The success that had marked their years in the AFL had gone. Even after drafting O.J. Simpson, who would go on to rush for 2,000 yards in a season in 1973, the Bills struggled to compete in consistently.
The Bills would change their luck with the 1983 draft, in which they drafted quarterback Jim Kelly. Although Kelly would not join the team for another two years, he would be one the keys, along with running back Thurman Thomas, to a team that six AFC East division titles in eight years and went to the Super Bowl four times. The Bills lost each time in the Super Bowl, a fact that tarnishes the incredible domination of the defense and the “No Huddle” offense that terrorized the league for nearly a decade.
Since the turn of the century the Bills have struggled to produce the same success of the late’80s and ‘90s.
The finished second in the AFC East despite a 7-9 record, and know that simply finishing second to the Patriots will not get them into the playoffs. The club has several spots that need to be filled in order to improve the team and has spent the beginning of free agency addressing those needs. They signed linebacker Kawika Mitchell from the Giants, hoping his Super Bowl experience will rally the team.
The 2008 draft can be used for almost anything, but will probably be used to fill out the offensive line and the secondary. The Bills seem set for the future at running back with Marshawn Lynch, but need to decide if their trio of quarterbacks contains a guy who can lead the team or if the club needs to reevaluate the position
The Bills will play an interesting season in Ralph Wilson Stadium, with an easy AFC East schedule (apart from the Patriots). This next year may be the year the club grows up and makes the playoffs.
