About The Arizona Cardinals

The two NFL championships date back to 1925 and 1948, well before the Super Bowl. The last conference title was more than 30 years ago, in 1975. The team has changed locations a number of times because of the waning support. The Cardinals and the Bears shared Chicago for a couple of decades, but the teams dismal record paled in comparison the Bears yearly domination of the league and the team moved to St. Louis.

The Cardinals ownership could not convince St. Louis to build a new stadium in 1988, after just three playoff appearances in 28 years. The team then moved to Arizona where Phoenix was growing and becoming a haven for sports teams. The team might have moved again, but the county voted to fund a new stadium for the team in a close ballot in 2000.

The teams continued struggle puts decades between playoff appearances, with the last appearance in 1998. The Cardinals came close last year though, with an 8-8 record that almost won the NFC West.

2008 Season Preview

The Arizona Cardinals season could have gone down in the books as another disappointment, but a 5-3 finish gave the team hope for 2008. Kurt Warner finished the season as starting quarterback, but Matt Leinart is still the future of the franchise. He has gotten plenty of experience in the last tow seasons and is looking to make the jump to full-fledged starting quarterback in 2008.

Leinart has a pair of great receivers to throw to. Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin provide the offense with a deep threat and a tough middle field threat. The passing game is complimented by Edgerrin James at running back. He is still able to draw eight men to the box despite his veteran status

The defense was the biggest weakness last season, giving up 399 points. The Cardinals’ front office has been busy this offseason signing linebackers Karlos Dansby and Clark Hagan and defensive end Travis LeBoy to help against the run. The Cardinals are expected to use the 16th pick in the draft to help the defense, but do not be surprised if the team picks up a left tackle instead.
