As the usual for many start-up teams, when the Dallas Cowboys were introduced into the NFL in 1960, their first season was a flop. Ending the year with a 0-11 record the team didn't let it get them down. Immediately the Dallas Cowboys began to load the roster through well thought out draft picks which would include quarterback Don Meredith, running back Don Perkins and wide receiver Bob Hayes among many others. The Dallas Cowboys ticket holders needed a coach for their team as well and they would be blessed to get the legendary Tom Landry who's leadership would last for over three decades.
In the mid-sixties, the Dallas Cowboys were a powerhouse in the league. Starting in 1966, the team would go on to win six straight division titles. As players began to retire, the team would stay strong by recruiting such names as Roger Staubach and legendary Mike Ditka. Staubach and Ditka would take the Dallas Cowboys ticket holders to not only one, but two Super Bowls in the early 1970's, winning the game in 1971. The 1971 game to this day remains the only Super Bowl in which a team would not score a touchdown.
Throughout the 1970's, the team would only miss going to the playoff's once with an 8-6 record. But that didn't discourage the strong team and they would once again see the Super Bowl. Dallas Cowboys tickets were selling at an amazing rate but the team would lose Super Bowl X to the Steelers. In 1977, the amazing team would see another Super Bowl and this time they won against the Denver Broncos. The teams defense was so strong that year that the Super Bowl MPV was shared by a defensive end and a defensive tackle.
Another trip to the Super Bowl in 1978 which the Dallas Cowboys lost again against the Steelers 35-31 would be their last trip for several years. In 1989, Jerry Jones took over as owner of the troubled team and let Tom Landry, the only coach the team had known since its beginnings in 1960, and brought in Jimmy Johnson. Johnson would follow in the steps of his predecessoror and start stacking the team with power players like quarterback Troy Aikman and running back Emmit Smith. These names caused Dallas Cowboys ticket sales to soar once again.
This new team with their new coach would take over, dominating the NFL in the 1990's. While there were some leftover players from the Landry days, the Dallas Cowboys would spend the next two years going through a rebuilding period. In 1991, the Dallas Cowboys ticket holders would see their team finally go to another playoff, the first since 1985. 1992 would bring success for the teams hard work and they would win the first of their back to back Super Bowls and would go on to win another in 1995.
The rest of the 1990's wouldn't be so good for the team and they would struggle through the turn of the century. It was time for the Dallas Cowboys to please their ticket holding fans and start heading the team in a new direction. They would spend some time again struggling and rebuilding and wouldn't really see a glimmer of light until obtaining Tony Romo.
The New York Giants are once again underdogs, even after winning the Super Bowl. The team has turned those doubts into fuel as they dominate the NFC East, the toughest division in the NFL. Eli Manning is ready to take the step to become “the” Manning with his favorite target Plaxico Burress finding seams in the secondary and Brandon Jacobs running over the opposing lines.
The Pittsburgh Steelers began as a team back in 1933 when the owner, Art Rooney Sr., paid the NFL league fee to have a team. The team than started at the bottom of the league and were called the Pittsburgh Pirates. They only were able to break even one season for seven seasons, with the other six being losing seasons for the team.
The team changed their name to the Steelers due to the steel industry being a strong suit for the city. The name change did little for the early success of the team, and they continued to have losing seasons until 1942 when things began to turn around for the team. The Pittsburgh Steelers of the 70’s became a success with head coach Chuck Noll leading the way. Terry Bradshaw, Lynn Swann, Mike Webster, John Stallworth, Franco Harris and Mean Joe Greene helped the team along with Jack Ham, Mel Blount and Jack Lambert.
The powerful offense and defense was nicknamed the Steel Curtain and they went to the playoffs eight times during that decade and went on to win four Super Bowls in six years. Both the offense and defense stars earned many awards for the team. During the 90’s, Chuck Noll retired and was replaced with Bill Cowher leading the team. He took the team to the playoffs in his first six seasons. The Steelers wen on to develop a 3-4 defense that was famous for blitzing remained dominant in the league for most of the decade.
Cowher left the team after the 2006 season and was replaced by Mike Tomlin who was able to put together a strong first year for the Steelers.
