About The University of Texas El Paso Miners
The team's current head football coach is Mike Price. The Miners play their home games at the Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas. The official colors of the team are Orange and Blue and the mascot is a miner named Paydirt Pete.
The first so-called mascot was a student dressed as a prospector leading a burro named Clyde. The current rendition of Paydirt Pete was unveiled at a home basketball game in the year 2005. The UTEP Miners football team played their first game in the year 1914 and currently competes in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision and was recently the Conference USA team to beat for the year 2008 season.
The team plays its home games at the Sun Bowl Stadium and will hold its next season in the year 2008 with Mike Price at the helm for his 5th season at UTEP. The arena is an outdoor football stadium on the campus of the University. It is home to the UTEP Miners of Conference USA (formerly of the WAC) and the late December college football bowl game, The Brut Sun Bowl. The stadium was inaugurated in the year 1963 and has seating capacity for 51,500 spectators.
