The Towson Tigers are the athletics teams of Towson University. They were formerly known as Towson College Knights. All of the major athletic teams compete in the Colonial Athletic Association with 18 Division I athletic teams. There are 11 teams in women’s sports and 7 in men’s sports.

About The Towson Tigers
The purpose of the Tiger Club is to support Towson University’s intercollegiate athletic program. The primary focus of that support is raising funds for athletic scholarships, facility development, sports program enhancement and serving as the University’s booster organization for the intercollegiate athletic program.
Towson's mascot is Doc the Tiger. The history behind the name is that the mascot was named after the former sports department head, Donal "Doc" Minnegan. From the years 1972 to 1991, Coach Albert was the Tigers’ head coach. In a span of 20 years as the Tigers’ coach, he compiled a record of 117-91-3. After the 1991 season, he retired as the Tigers’ head coach and long-time assistant Gordy Combs took over leadership of the program. Gordy joined Tiger Football in its second year of existence as a varsity program. Of the 385 games Towson has played entering the 2005 season, Gordy has been on the field or pacing the sidelines for 376 of them.
