About Tostitos Fiesta Bowl

This well known Bowl was born from the unsuccessful attempts made by the Western Athletic Conference to win bowl invitations for its champions. In both the years 1968 and 1969, champions Wyoming and Arizona State were not able to secure any bowl game selection. The next year, undefeated Arizona State was not allowed to play at major bowls and had to appear in the not so famous Peach Bowl. The inaugural game witnessed the match between the top-ten Arizona State squad with the top-twenty opponent Florida State. By 1975, this game could not invite the Big Eight co-champion Nebraska to play against triumphant Arizona State in a game of top-five teams.

Initially the Fiesta Bowl made provisions for an automatic bowl tie-in for the Western Athletic Conference championship. But gradually, it was able to gain the much needed success and popularity. As the games began to attract spectators, with the beginning of the 1981 game, it was shifted to New Year's Day with the other major bowl games. Prior to 2007, the bowl game used to designate the National Championship game in every four years. The New Year's Day that is on January 1, 2007, the great team of Boise State Broncos held the winner's title by defeating the Oklahoma Sooners by 43-42 in overtime. The Fiesta Bowl has been regarded as one of the greatest college games ever played in the history of football. It has a great combination of trick plays, an underdog team and comebacks by all the team with a thrilling overtime finish.

With numerous viewers and football lovers this game has gained the desired recognition and fame. If you wish to enjoy the crowd on January 2, 2008 to watch a wonderful game between West Virginia and Oklahoma, quickly contact your online vendor and purchase the tickets before the ball hits the goal.

This year’s Fiesta Bowl pits the Boise State Broncos against the TCU Horned Frogs. This is definitely one of the less traditional match ups, though both teams come into the game ranked in the top ten according to the BCS standings.

The Boise State Broncos come in ranked Number 6 in the BCS standings after finishing 13-0 overall and 8-0 in the WAC. The team scored an incredible 44.2 points thanks to an offense that ran the football for 195 yards a game and passed the ball for 266 yards a game. The defense also is impressive, holding opponents to 17.7 points a game. Quarterback Kellen Moore may not throw the hardest ball in college football, but he knows where it should go. He had 3,325 yards and 39 touchdowns over the season. Running back Jeremy Avery led the team in rushing yards with 1,130 and running back Doug Martin led the team in rushing touchdowns with 14.

The TCU Horned Frogs ended the year 12-0 and Number 4 in the BCS standings. They won the MWC easily thanks to an offense averaged 40.7 points a game and only gave up 12.4. The team loves to run the football, gaining 257 rushing yards a game and throwing the ball for 213. The option offense has four rushers with 500 yards or more. Running backs Joseph Turner, Matthew Tucker, and Ed Wesley joined quarterback Andy Dalton in running over teams from all angles. Turner seemed to be the go to guy at the end zone with 11 touchdowns.

This is going to be a true test for both teams. They both come from smaller conferences which probably led to an inflated scoring average, so this game will prove who probably should have been in the National Championship game.
